VFW is again teaming up with Ace Hardware to give away 1 million stick flags

- 4/9/2020

The VFW is again teaming up with Ace Hardware to give away 1 million stick flags in the weeks leading up to Memorial Day in an effort to mark as many veterans’ graves as possible. Ace retailers nationwide will donate up to 200 flags to their local VFW Posts and distribute them free to customers while supplies last.

Ace Hardware will be mailing the boxes of flags directly to the VFW Posts starting April 15. Participating Posts were selected by Ace Hardware based on their proximity to participating stores. Not all Posts will receive flags.

Visit vfw.org/AceGiveaway for a list of participating Posts. IMPORTANT: In response to the current pandemic, most packages will be left at the front door as a signature is NOT required. Posts receiving flags will receive the flag shipment TO THEIR POST ADDRESS. Please check the list to see where your Post’s flags will be delivered, and if you do not receive your flags by May 8, please contact Kevin Jamison at kjamison@vfw.org or 816.968.1175, and Ace will coordinate reshipment.

If your Post receives a shipment of stick flags, please be sure to use them to decorate veterans’ graves or distribute them throughout your community this Memorial Day. Following continued guidance from the CDC and in keeping with social distancing best practices, we urge you to make smart decisions with participants’ health and safety in mind when, and if you gather to place these flags on veterans’ graves.

If your Post is not on the list to receive flags but would like to be considered, please email us and we’ll reach out to Ace Hardware. The VFW has no say as to which Posts are to receive flags or not, as it is all decided by Ace Hardware.

We encourage all Posts to call their local Ace Hardware store and thank them for their support. Along with flags, Ace Hardware has pledged a $20,000 donation to the VFW Unmet Needs program. It’s important for the VFW to acknowledge their support which helps to ensure our programs continue to thrive.

Look for more information on this initiative in the coming weeks by visiting vfw.org or following us on social media. For questions, please contact Kevin Jamison, VFW Foundation Assistant Director of Corporate Relations at kjamison@vfw.org or 816.968.1175.

Member News - VFW Post 2704 would like to congratulate Larry Gerlt. At the December Awards Banquet it was announced that Larry was selected by the Post for the 2020 Edward G. Reyes Semper Fidelis Award. Congratulations Larry.

Annual Members - If you haven't already renewed your membership, please do. Every year our Post spends hundreds of man-hours on membership renewals. It's important to our Post and the entire VFW organization. That said, time is precious, and the hours spent on membership renewal takes away from hours that could be spent on other service projects helping Veterans in the Omaha area.  Thank you.

Our Post History - I'm trying to gather information on our Post history, I've been a member for several years, I know we are the Deml-Kopietz Post but I was never told why.
