VFW National Commander Challenge April 2020

- 3/30/2020

Comrades,

First off, I hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe during the current situation. The VFW Membership Department is adapting to a remote work environment, as are likely many of you, and we’re still here and able to assist you with information, answers to your questions, and resources to help meet your membership goals.

In that vein, we have the April 2020 Commander’s Challenge, laid out by Commander-in-Chief Doc Schmitz. Even though we’re not able to get everyone together at the Posts for meetings and events, we still want to reach out to our members and let them know that the VFW is here for them. This is the time to start making calls to our members, to do wellness checks and see how they’re doing. Some of our members may need assistance that the Post can provide; elderly members may need assistance getting groceries or picking up medications, for example.

This is also a chance to contact those members whose dues are expiring or have lapsed and let them know that the Post is still here and why their membership is important. To this end, for the month of April we are challenging our Posts to pick up those renewing and lapsed members. At the end of April, we will take the FIVE top Posts in each division based on number of renewing and reinstated members and we will enter them in a drawing (one winner per Division) for a $1,000 stipend to be deposited into the Post account.

Keep an eye on the VFW Membership Department’s Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ VFWmembership for more information on this challenge, which will run through the month of April. Just because we might be working from home doesn’t mean we can’t still be carrying on the VFW mission. Now more than ever, it’s the time to prove that we DARE TO CARE and that NO ONE DOES MORE FOR VETERANS.

Member News - VFW Post 2704 would like to congratulate Larry Gerlt. At the December Awards Banquet it was announced that Larry was selected by the Post for the 2020 Edward G. Reyes Semper Fidelis Award. Congratulations Larry.

Annual Members - If you haven't already renewed your membership, please do. Every year our Post spends hundreds of man-hours on membership renewals. It's important to our Post and the entire VFW organization. That said, time is precious, and the hours spent on membership renewal takes away from hours that could be spent on other service projects helping Veterans in the Omaha area.  Thank you.

Our Post History - I'm trying to gather information on our Post history, I've been a member for several years, I know we are the Deml-Kopietz Post but I was never told why.
