In a continuing effort to maintain accurate information on our members, the VFW recently conducted an extensive database scrub to remove deceased members from the rosters. This resulted in identifying over 88,000 life members as being deceased. These members were all over the age of 75 and were matched by numerous data points with a national database to determine their deceased status. We are sending letters to all posts and departments with the names of their members who are now marked in our records as deceased as a result of this data scrub. The post and department quartermasters will have an opportunity to correct any errors if they know for a fact that someone on the list is alive.
These members have been removed from OMS and Memstats. As such, they will not be included in the September life membership payout. Anyone added back in before November 1, will have a life membership payout made on them in the January payouts.
We recognize that this will have an impact on both your member count and your life member payouts. The Commander-in-Chief is planning to offer amnesty on these members. We are working with the National Council of Administration on a plan to lessen the financial impact to posts and departments. We will announce that at an appropriate time.
Please be assured that as we move forward, the impact of the reported deaths is our first and foremost concern. Once a decision has been determined, we will notify you immediately.
If you have any questions please contact Quartermaster General Debra Anderson (DAnderson@vfw.org or 816.756.3390, ext 6777).

Member News - VFW Post 2704 would like to congratulate Larry Gerlt. At the December Awards Banquet it was announced that Larry was selected by the Post for the 2020 Edward G. Reyes Semper Fidelis Award. Congratulations Larry.
Annual Members - If you haven't already renewed your membership, please do. Every year our Post spends hundreds of man-hours on membership renewals. It's important to our Post and the entire VFW organization. That said, time is precious, and the hours spent on membership renewal takes away from hours that could be spent on other service projects helping Veterans in the Omaha area. Thank you.Our Post History - I'm trying to gather information on our Post history, I've been a member for several years, I know we are the Deml-Kopietz Post but I was never told why.
