Old Glory Relay operated by a nonprofit veteran organization

- 9/8/2018

Old Glory Relay operated by a nonprofit veteran organization (Team Red, White, & Blue) who's mission is to enrich the lives of American veterans by connecting them to their communities through physical and social events.

I’d like to let you know about a patriotic event that I think might interest you and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1581. On September 11th, 2018, our national RWB team will kick off an event called Old Glory Relay. This event consists of lifting Old Glory through 24 states and covering over 4,300 miles in 62 days. Old Glory will begin its journey in Boston aboard the USS Constitution and will make its final stop in San Diego, CA on Veteran’s Day. For the first time, on October 19th(Day 39), the state of Nebraska will host Old Glory’s epic journey through the streets of Omaha, Lincoln, and Beatrice. The opening ceremony for the unfurling of the flag begins at approx 0630 @ Gene Leahy Park. This event provides an excellent opportunity to break away from the political divide across our nation and find the common ground that unites us all, "Old Glory.” Moreover, it is a wonderful opportunity to inform the local veteran organizations about this unique experience. There is even an opportunity to become a flag bearer and be part of Old Glory’s story among the 10,000 hands taking part in its amazing journey.

I ask that you to consider supporting Team RWB’s mission by coming out and celebrate this patriotic event. I would be willing to share more about this awesome event. I have attached Old Glory’s story for familiarity. Thank you for consideration.

I am also attaching our turn by turn route. Open ridewithGPS pdf and click on Omaha, NE (Day 39). This should help you pinpoint where Old Glory will traverse closest to you. It is better if you open it on a desktop/laptop.

There is also an opportunity to sponsor our local team through in kind donations or by buying an Old Glory Shirt and Commemorative Coin. I have added a link if you wish to share:

The link below is to our Omaha Chapter's fundraising page.

Anyone can also buy a shirt and a coin, proceeds goes to our Team as well.

Member News - VFW Post 2704 would like to congratulate Larry Gerlt. At the December Awards Banquet it was announced that Larry was selected by the Post for the 2020 Edward G. Reyes Semper Fidelis Award. Congratulations Larry.

Annual Members - If you haven't already renewed your membership, please do. Every year our Post spends hundreds of man-hours on membership renewals. It's important to our Post and the entire VFW organization. That said, time is precious, and the hours spent on membership renewal takes away from hours that could be spent on other service projects helping Veterans in the Omaha area.  Thank you.

Our Post History - I'm trying to gather information on our Post history, I've been a member for several years, I know we are the Deml-Kopietz Post but I was never told why.
